| When you buy your computer, get Microsoft Windows XP Professional rather than XP Home if you can. There are many reasons for the extra expense of $100 but the main one is future networking capabilities you have with Pro vs. Home.
Home is simply a downscaled version of Pro. There are many differences - features that Pro has that Home does not have. Click here for a detailed list and you can decide for yourself.
You can always upgrade to the Pro from the Home version later if you like but the cost will be around $250 if you do it yourself - more if you have someone do it for you.
Try to find a computer that has Pro. If you can't find one in your price range but you can with Home, get it and up grade later.
