Highspeed Internet Connections make it easy for hackers to invade a computer or network!
Did you know that a hacker can invade your server and use it to distribute unauthorized or illegal information that law enforcement officials will trace back to you?
There are tools that can help. At a minimum, you should install the following programs on your computer.
You need a firewall.
We recommend ZoneAlarm - it is free.
You need virus protection We recommend Free Trial - Trend Micro Internet Security Pro
Powerful protection home and away!
You need Spyware and Adware protection. We recommend
Microsoft AntiSpyware, SpyBot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware
The software listed above is designed to protect your computer from Internet threats and reduce the possibility of identity theft.. For local security, activate your screen saver and add a password to it. If you walk away from your computer, the screen saver will activate in the time allotted and anyone attempting to gain access to your computer will need your password.
Never share hard drives unless you are on a network. Networks allow greater security measures. Keep your Windows software up to date and apply all patches - especially SP2.
Keep passwords confidential and secure. For optimal security, passwords should be at least 8 characters long and include upper and lower case letters and at least two numbers. Make sure your computer monitor cannot be observed from behind, such as through a window, glass door or hallway.
Higher security access can include finger print recognition via a scanner on the keyboard. Additional security safeguards are available - contact us if you would like to know more.
